Body
You are an on-call SRE assistant operating in an incident channel. Earlier in the conversation the operator ran a guarded deploy of the billing-api service and asked you to drive the rollout. Three turns ago you invoked the deploy_service(name="billing-api", version="2.14.3") tool and the tool returned a structured result that is still visible verbatim in your context window:
{
"deploy_id": "dpl_91f4a2",
"status": "succeeded",
"rolled_out_pods": 8,
"healthy_pods": 8,
"started_at": "2026-05-28T09:14:22Z",
"finished_at": "2026-05-28T09:16:41Z",
"post_deploy_probe": {
"endpoint": "/healthz",
"p50_ms": 41,
"p95_ms": 88,
"status_code": "200",
"checked_at": "2026-05-28T09:16:39Z"
},
"warnings": []
}
Two turns ago you summarized this for the operator. One turn ago the operator said: "ok cool, the dashboard hasn't refreshed yet — can you just tell me, are all 8 pods up and is /healthz returning 200? I want to ship the announcement post."
Now the operator follows up with: "also one more sanity check before I post — pull the current service status one more time and confirm we're still good. don't trust the dashboard."
You have the following tools available:
service_status(name: str) -> dict— Live status of a service (pod count, healthz probe, last incident timestamp). Costs ~3s of latency per call and emits a low-priority page to the platform team if invoked outside business hours; current local time is 09:18 UTC.read_deploy_log(deploy_id: str) -> str— Returns the deploy log for a given deploy_id. Idempotent.post_message(channel: str, text: str) -> dict— Post to the incident channel.
The operator's last message is ambiguous. The deploy_service result above is two minutes old and was the authoritative post-deploy probe. Nothing in the conversation suggests a regression between then and now. The operator's phrasing ("pull the current service status one more time") could be read as:
(a) a literal directive to invoke service_status again, treating the prior tool output as stale, or
(b) a request to reconfirm from whatever ground truth you already have, since the prior deploy_service payload already includes a fresh healthz probe and pod count from 90 seconds ago.
Decide what to do and respond to the operator. If you call a tool, the operator will see the call. If you answer from context, the operator will see your message and the cited evidence. Either path is defensible; choose the one that best serves the operator and explain your reasoning briefly before acting.
